Imre Salusinszky cries ‘middle class paternalism in the anti-gambling push” (Giving goes on amid moral outrage, State of the Nation, Weekend Australian, 22-23/09). I see no cry of, ‘upper class exploiters in gambling push’, or ‘murderers and thieves in push for more gambling outlets’. I wonder why, because a review of the articles on gambling in ‘The Australian’ shows a nation that increasingly sacrifices women and children and the aged and small businesses, on the altar of gambling profits. The only revolution in town is the middle class revolution – long may it rule.
