I was recently appointed by the National Rural Health Alliance as convenor of the 10th National Rural Health Conference in Cairns during May 2009. We had the first conference advisory committee meeting today. Although this is quite a responsibility, I have a great experienced team behind me doing all the real work. And our conference advisory committee will have representation from a range of health organisations and the indigenous community, so I am looking forward to a conference with a strong policy impact in the Australian health arena.
We also have a strong ‘arts-in-health’ strand in the conference and will be working with the Regional Arts Council to develop this strand.
I am proposing a strand of interaction with our neighbours, Timore, PNG, Solomons, Vanuatu, etc. but it will be some months before we have looked at the possibilities well enough to say we have a strand.
Otherwise, I am very delighted to be involved at this cutting edge of Australian Health development.
