On Problems and Solutions

I recently read this old story and it seemed so perceptive I had to copy it here.

” A father, mother and soon -to-be-married daughter discovered a heavy iron mallet perched precariously on a beam in their basement. They discussed at length the dangers it posed, including possible injury or death to the future children of the marriage; and all three fell into deep despair and tears. The suitor visited at this time , inquired of, and learned the cause of their state. He then stood on a nearby chair, reached up , removed the mallet from the ceiling, and immediately thereafter, broke off his marriage engagement.”
